Our Story

Welcome to the Boyd Funeral Home website. We are proud to be Cheatham County's longest established funeral home. It began around 1963 when the Shearon's purchased Dr. Harper's home at 101 Elizabeth St. and with some changes to the residence, it has been a funeral home ever since. Over the years, the funeral home has had several owners and in 1985 it was purchased by Terry and Sue Boyd. They continued to operate it together for the next 30 years until his passing in 2005. With very few changes, Sue Boyd continues the legacy of Boyd Funeral Home with it's dedicated service to the community with Tomecia Thorn as Manager, Funeral Director and Embalmer. We value our reputation for providing the highest quality funeral services, with the personal attention and professionalism to help your family through this difficult time.

The Boyd Funeral Home staff is committed to serving everyone. This means all families, of all faiths, backgrounds and walks of life. EVERYONE deserves dignity and respect. Our primary concern is to ensure dignified, respectful, and compassionate assistance in your time of need. Recognizing that each family is unique, we offer personalized services in order to create a custom and meaningful service that honors the life and memory of your loved one. The funeral home should be a place for those grieving to come together and lean on one another during the most difficult time in life. That was part of the vision that Terry and Sue Boyd had in 1985 and we intend to honor them by keeping the candle of that vision burning bright in Cheatham County.

We are a full-service funeral home, and provide families with traditional, private and personalized funeral services. 

 We are Cremation Specialists. Cremation is an option that many families choose and we provide affordable care as well as a large selection of merchandise.

Boyd Funeral Home wants to create the best solution for you at an affordable price point. Many people are vulnerable during a time of grief and we recognize that. Our Pledge to you is that we will treat you like we would want you to treat us, like our very own family. Here, less expensive does not mean cheap or impersonal, and full-service quality does not mean unaffordable. Everyone deserves a dignified service whether it’s traditional burial, direct burial, cremation with a memorial service, or simple cremation.

We honor the pre-need funeral arrangements made with other funeral homes both locally and out of state.

Pre-need funeral arrangements are not required but are designed to record your specific wishes and ease the burden on your family when the time comes. Pre-need fully funded funeral arrangements can be completed here. Joan Shelton is our Family Services Director and can assist you in completing a pre-need for yourself or a family member. We also offer to prearrange your funeral with you at no cost. 

Some of our services include:

* We offer veterans with a proper DD214 a variety of military honors. Veterans can be buried at no cost in a Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. 

* Personalized funeral/memorial service. Did your loved one enjoy golf? Have your service at the golf course. Was your loved one a farmer? Have your service at your farm. Include a special vehicle. Use a motorcycle escort. Personal.

* Graveside ceremonies. Funerals at other locations. Memorial services.

*Cremation options such as traditional visitation, and direct cremation with a memorial.

* Our services include an After Care program for grief support.
