John Edward Roney Sr.

John Edward Roney Sr. of Big Sandy, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at the age of 68. John passed away at Tennova Healthcare in Clarksville Tennessee with his beloved daughter Beth by his side. John was born in Nashville, TN on Novemer 17, 1952, to father Charles Roney Jr. and mother Maxine Bentley Roney. He had a large and loving family with 5 brothers; Sonny, Jerry, Joe, Frank and Jimmy along with 5 sisters; Charlene, Sue, Jenny, Francis and Barbara. John voluntarily enlisted in the United States Army at age 18, he was stationed in Thailand and served as a Morse Inteceptor from 1972-1974. John received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Meritorious Unit Commendation. John married Roxanne Campbell in 1980 and raised their two children Beth & Johnny Jr. in Pleasant View, Tennessee. He had a successful Plumbing Company for many years and later joined the Local 572 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union in 2003. He worked and traveled many places until he retired in 2019. John retired to the town of Big Sandy and spent his days fishing with friends and his brother Jimmy. When he wasn’t fishing, he spent as much time as possible with his grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother Sonny and sister Charlene Ary. He is survived by his children Beth (Eric) Tweedale and John Jr (Nicole) Roney; grandchildren Trinity Tweedale, Adilyn Tweedale, Trey Roney and Lucy Roney. A visitation for John is planned for Thursday, September 9 th 2021, from 4-8pm and Friday, September 10 th 9-10am . The visitation will be at the Boyd Funeral Home 101 Elizabeth Street, Ashland City. All are invited to attend. The funeral will follow immediately at 11am at the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetary, 7931 McCrory Lane, Nashville.
